A secondary school in Tregony has retained its 'Outstanding' rating after a recent Ofsted inspection.

The Roseland Academy was visited by inspectors on May 21 and 22.

Serving around 656 mixed-gender pupils aged between 11 and 16, the academy is part of the Roseland multi-academy trust, overseen by a board of trustees and led by headteacher Richard Clarke.

Inspectors found that "The Roseland Academy provides pupils with an outstanding education."

Reinforcing the trust values of kindness, responsibility, and ambition in all aspects of school life, the academy recognises each pupil as an individual contributing to the school's community.

Inspectors observed pupils as being self-motivated and engaged in their learning.

"The relationships between adults and pupils are warm and mutually respectful," they noted.

The school's discipline system is also effective, fostering an environment where pupils learn without disruption.

The report also highlighted the extensive range of extra-curricular activities available to pupils.

These include varied clubs ranging from rugby, surfing, crochet, law, and the Roseland Racer Greenpower Team, a unique opportunity for aspiring engineers and race enthusiasts.

The Ofsted inspection report praised the academy for its ambitious curriculum that is meticulously planned to build pupil's knowledge and expertise with confidence.

Teaching staff were praised for their high skill level and their efforts to ensure pupils both learn and remember important subject knowledge.

"The school sets high standards for pupils’ work", the inspection report observed.

It was found that pupils are encouraged and supported to reach these high expectations, resulting in their excellent performance in external examinations and effective preparation for further studies.

Moreover, the academy was recognised for its effective support of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

The inspectors noted: "Staff goes to great lengths to ensure that pupils receive the help they need to excel at the school".

Concerning the school's contribution to pupils' overall development, inspectors found that "pupils are well prepared for their future adult lives."

They are not only encouraged to perform well academically but are also given effective personal development programmes, advice regarding future studies and employment, and opportunities to understand and debate current affairs and moral issues.

Lastly, Roseland Academy's safeguarding measures were found to be effective by inspectors, along with their proactive consideration for the workload and wellbeing of staff.

The report offers an assured affirmation of the 'Outstanding' standard of education provided by Roseland Academy and its dedication to nurturing a successful, well-rounded school community.
