I tried the Tripadvisor top-rated restaurant by the M32

Looking for a place to eat in Bristol is a tricky decision, not because of what to eat but because of how many options there are. Everywhere you look there is another restaurant or café which serves a different range of cuisine options.

Thankfully, websites like Tripadvisor allow people to rank the best eateries by rating. This means that there is often something new to try as an eatery rises up the places and generates new hype.

One such place is Baba Ganoush Kitchen. The tucked-away restaurant on St Nicholas Road in St Pauls is ranked the second best restaurant in Bristol on Tripadvisor, as customers love the food, the portions and the kindness of the owners. In fact, out of 368 reviews, 363 were rated five stars out of five and it has been given the Travellers Choice Award in 2023.

So many reviewers said that it was their favourite place to eat in Bristol, so one lunchtime I went to Baba Ganoush and decided to try the falafel wrap. For all the positive reviews and the glowing reputation, I was expecting great things.

Despite being a literal stone's throw from the M32, it’s quite surprising how little you hear of the traffic. The colours of the exterior are mesmerising and makes the eatery stand out, a good start so far.

The owners of Baba Ganoush are so friendly and immediately welcomed me in, at that point it felt like a community space rather than just another restaurant. It was refreshing and it just makes you feel more relaxed and willing to spend time there.

The Lebanese restaurant allows for takeaway as well as sitting in, however I decided to stay in and try the Jerusalem Falafel Wrap, which was the top-selling item. It comes in two sizes so I went for the large wrap which cost £7.

I liked the cosy atmosphere of Baba Ganoush, you can see the wraps and salads being created in front of you and are never too far away from someone else. I was so distracted by my surroundings that my wrap felt like it came out in an instant.

I can’t quite begin to describe my shock at seeing how big the wrap was, it was more than a foot in length and full to the brim of falafels, salad and pickles. Knowing it was the first time I had a wrap there, the staff kindly said: “Always unwrap from the top, never take the wrap out from the bottom as you’ll end up with a mess, not a wrap.”

It was incredible, the falafels provided the perfect amount of heat with a touch of spice. The salad, which includes tomatoes, lettuce and pickles, was so refreshing and it was perfectly balanced out.

Everything was nicely seasoned and the wrap size was generous. There was so much food and so much to enjoy, you would not believe that something can be so healthy and taste so good.

Normally when presented with a big portion of something, notably a wrap, you can tire and start feeling full, it often goes to waste. With this wrap, however, every bite popped with so much flavour that you are unable to stop.

After eating the near half-metre wrap, it staggered me that the wrap only cost £7. I think, arguably, Baba Ganoush may just be the best value for money in Bristol.

For me personally, the Jerusalem Falafel wrap was one of the best things that I’ve ever eaten, and I will definitely be returning. Not only does Baba Ganoush offer value for money, it is an experience that everyone needs to try at least once.
