A TUI flight from Newcastle to Cape Verde was forced to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport after hitting a bird. The aircraft, scheduled to depart at 9.40 am, landed back in Manchester just after 11 am after a bird struck it during take-off.

Manchester Airport confirmed the flight returned as a safety precaution, with fire crews on standby as the plane landed, which had sustained damage.

Passengers disembarked and were held at the departure lounge until another aircraft could be arranged. They subsequently departed in a replacement plane to Sal in Cape Verde, reports the Manchester Evening News.
