TV Cameraman Among the Dozens Arrested at UT-Austin Protest

Scuffles broke out at a pro-Palestinian demonstration at the University of Texas at Austin on Wednesday, April 24, as dozens were arrested.

Footage filmed and posted to X by user @thedoctorjulio shows a melee on Wednesday involving a local journalist.

According to Fox 7 Austin reporters, a cameraman for their news team reporting for the station was arrested and taken to jail.

More than 50 people were arrested, according to local reports citing an attorney assisting those arrested.

The demonstration was organized by the Palestinian Solidarity Committee of Austin, which planned to lead a march to the campus’s South Lawn and occupy the area for the day, and aligned itself with similar protests taking place at other universities across the country.

On Wednesday, the office of the university’s Dean of Students said on X: “Simply put, The University of Texas at Austin will not allow this campus to be ‘taken’ and protesters to derail our mission in ways that groups affiliated with your national organization have accomplished elsewhere.” The UT Austin Police said they had cleared the area by Wednesday evening.
