Cheltenham Town have appointed Kyler Burns as their new lead physical performance coach.

He replaces Sammy Gilchrist, who has left to take up a role within Bristol City's academy.

Burns worked under new Robins boss Michael Flynn at both Newport County AFC and - more recently - Swindon Town, where his title was lead sports scientist.

He has also previously been at Dundee United, leaving the Scottish club to join Swindon last summer.

Meanwhile, there has been a change in the Robins' academy set-up, with Dan Still departing to take up the first team goalkeeping coach role at League Two club Walsall.

Cheltenham's first team goalkeeping coach James Bittner's departure for another club is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

The role will be filled by former Newport stopper Joe Day, who is also likely to be understudy to a loan number one from a Championship club.

Cheltenham reported back for pre-season training on Tuesday morning, with the opening session including fitness testing along with some running work. Two trialists were in attendance.

There will be some track sessions incorporated into the players' pre-season regime.

The first friendly for Flynn's new-look side is away to Southern League Division One South neighbours Bishop's Cleeve on Friday, July 5.
