Two Coventry men charged with serious assault

Two Coventry men have been charged following a serious assault in Keresley End. Jamie Townsend, 35, and Thomas Black, 28 committed the assault on Thursday June 20.

Black was been charged with Section 18 wounding with intent while Townsend was charged with Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, common assault, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Both have been remanded until their court date on July 25 at Warwick Crown Court.

It follows an incident during which a man in his 60s allegedly became involved in an altercation following a reported confrontation with a group of males riding off-road motorbikes in Rathbone Close at around 4:10pm on Thursday June 20.

The victim was allegedly assaulted by one of the men, before another reportedly attacked him with a hammer. A police spokesman said: "The victim was allegedly assaulted by one of the males, before another reportedly attacked him with a hammer.

"Enquiries are ongoing, and we are keeping the appeal open for anyone with information that may help with our investigation."

Warwickshire Police have expressed interest in any footage from the area around 4:10pm on Thursday 20 June. The public have been asked to contact them, citing Incident 244 of June 20.
