Two dogs have been put to sleep after an Edinburgh woman sustained serious injuries.

At around 9.15am on Thursday, May 16, police raced to Leith after receiving reports of a dog attack. Academy Street was taped off on Friday as enquiries are ongoing.

The woman was sent to the Royal Infirmary by ambulance with serious injuries after she was attacked by two dogs in a property. Police have now confirmed that the dogs were euthanised on Friday, May 17.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.15am on Thursday, 16 May, 2024 officers were called to reports of a person having been attacked by two dogs within a property at Academy Street, Leith.

"Emergency services attended and a 26-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by ambulance with serious injuries. On Friday, 17 May, 2024, the two dogs were euthanised. Enquiries remain ongoing."
