Mercedes McQueen, played by Jennifer Metcalfe, and Warren Fox, portrayed by Jamie Lomas, decided to take a break from the Channel 4 soap after Warren narrowly escaped death at the hands of an unknown shooter.

In Monday's episode, available for streaming on Channel 4 online, Norma Crow, played by Glynis Barber, urged her son Warren to retreat to a safe house, taking with him Mercedes, who is carrying his unborn child.

Norma cautioned Mercedes that she had no other option but to leave. Later, Warren and Mercedes set off for the Lake District to evade the threat to his life, hinting at a possible reunion and shared future.

Warren has recently been in the crosshairs after distributing a batch of dangerous pills that led to the tragic deaths of Lizzie Chen-Williams and Hunter McQueen.

His predicament escalated last week when he was shot by an unidentified attacker - though he survived unscathed thanks to a bulletproof vest, reports the Mirror.

As Warren sought information about his assailant, it was later disclosed that his adversary Freddie Roscoe, played by Charlie Clapham, had concealed a gun in his bag.

Norma persuaded Mercedes to pack her belongings after alerting her to the danger she also faces, advising her to leave the village to ensure the safety of her children.

As Mercedes prepared for their Lakes District getaway, Warren confided in her: "Norma is going to deal with things while we're away, and then when we get back, we are going to move into our new home with our family."
