Two men have been arrested and charged following separate violent incidents in Middlesbrough -  including an alleged stabbing, on Teesside police have revealed.

A 44-year-old man was remanded into custody after appearing at Teesside Magistrates’ Court having been charged with possession of a knife in a public place, and with Section 18 assault.

The charge follows an investigation by Middlesbrough CID into a report of a 45-year-old man being allegedly stabbed on Thornton Street on Thursday (May 23). The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition.

In an unrelated incident, two women (aged 23 and 43) reported being followed by a man in a white van near the Teesside University campus and then assaulted.

Uniformed officer colleagues quickly located and arrested a 23-year-old man. Middlesbrough CID then took over enquiries into the incident, which was alleged to have taken place in the early hours of yesterday (Saturday May 25).
