Two men charged with conspiracy to commit murder after woman stabbed in New Cross

Two men have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder after a woman in her 30s was stabbed in New Cross.

The incident happened in Parkfield Road near Lewisham Way just before 9am on May 24.

Police and London Ambulance Service crews attended and found a woman injured.

She was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where her condition was later confirmed as non-life threatening.

The two suspects, Jorge Enrique Borges, 64, of Buttermere Close, Southwark and Mateo Valencia Cano, 24, of Whitehorse Lane, South Norwood, were detained on June 28 and charged the next day.

On July 1, they appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court, accused of conspiracy to murder.

Cano faces additional charges of attempted murder, robbery, and possession of an offensive weapon.

Both await their hearing at Crown Court on July 29 but the venue remains unconfirmed.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Two men have appeared in court after a woman was seriously injured following a stabbing in Lewisham.

"On Friday 24 May police were called to Lewisham Way at around 09:00hrs to reports of a stabbing.

"Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from the London Ambulance Service who treated a woman in her 30s for stab injuries.

"Fortunately her condition is not considered life-threatening.

"Jorge Enrique Borges, 64 (26.05.60), of Buttermere Close, Southwark and Mateo Valencia Cano, 24 (03.02.00), of Whitehorse Lane, South Norwood appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 1 July charged with conspiracy to murder.

“Cano was also charged with attempted murder; robbery; and possession of an offensive weapon.

“Both were remanded to appear at Crown Court on Monday, 29 July – confirmation of the venue awaits.

“Borges and Cano were arrested on 28 June and charged the following day.”
