Two pensioners rushed to Lanarkshire hospital after major three-car crash

Two pensioners have been rushed to hospital after a three-vehicle crash on a Lanarkshire road yesterday (May 1).

Emergency services raced to the B7078 near the junction for Balgray Road in Lesmahagow after receiving reports of the collision at around 5.10pm.

The road was closed by officers as ambulance crews attended the scene and collision investigators assessed and examined the roadway.

The vehicles involved were a white Fiat Panda, a grey Mazda CX5 and a black Mitsubishi L200. The Fiat overturned following the collision.

Both occupants of the car, an 82-year-old woman and an 86-year-old man, were taken to Wishaw General Hospital.

The 44-year-old female driver of the Mazda and the 68-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi did not require to go to hospital.

Sergeant Ross Allison said: “I am appealing to other road users with dash cams, who were in the area around the time of the incident, to check their footage as it could contain images relevant to our investigation.”

Police Scotland are now asking for those with information to contact them via 101, quoting incident number 2667 of May 1, 2024.
