Two Stoke-on-Trent firms make Sunday Times 100 fastest-growing companies

Two rapidly-growing Stoke-on-Trent firms have been named in the prestigious Sunday Times 100 today (June 28). Both WordUnited and Map Room Limited have made the list of the UK's top 100 fastest-growing companies.

The annual ranking, now in its third year, identifies and celebrates Britain’s 100 leading entrepreneurial businesses. Educational resources provider WordUnited, based on James Brindley Way near Tunstall, was ranked 35th on the list, while consultancy firm Map Room, located at Federation House on Station Road, was placed 92nd.

WordUnited's revenue was £8.6m for 2023, representing an annual sales growth of 123 per cent over the past three years. Part of the Bateman Collins Group and also having a base in London, Map Room's revenue last year was £9.8m which equated to a 67 per cent rise.

Birmingham-based healthcare recruitment and consultancy firm Clive Henry Group, founded in 2019, was the Midlands' fastest-growing company and ranked second overall in the UK. Sales hit £20 million in 2023, with an impressive 264.5 per cent average annual growth in the last three years.

The research for the Sunday Times 100 found on average the top 100 fastest-growing companies have increased their sales by 118 per cent a year over the last three years to a combined £2.9 billion in sales. In total these companies employ 13,670 people, having created 10,000 new jobs in the last three years, with 99 of them planning further hires in the next 12 months - equating to around 3,800 additional jobs.

Out of the 100 companies featured in the ranking more than a third are based in London, with the rest spread throughout the country. This includes 11 in the south east, 10 in the northwest and nine in the south west of England.

Jim Armitage, business editor of The Sunday Times said: "Our politicians talk about how they will deliver economic growth, but it is the graft of entrepreneurs - such as those featured on this year's Sunday Times 100 - who achieve it. Their remarkable resilience in difficult economic conditions shows what is possible with vision and hard work."
