Tyler, the Creator: Student charged with terror threat after scrawling rapper’s lyrics on library flip chart

A student has been charged with making a terror threat after scrawling Tyler, the Creator lyrics on a flip chart in a university library.

Jack Aaron Christensen, 21, is accused of writing “kill people, burn s***, f*** school, hail satan 666, praise the devil” – lyrics from the rapper’s song “Radicals” – on a “white flip chart” in a library at the University of South Alabama.

The alleged incident occurred “on or around” 11 September. Christensen was arrested that day, according to Pitchfork.

Tyler’s lyrics have previously been at the centre of legal conflict, with his group Odd Future banned from performing at a New Zealand festival in 2012 due to their lyrical content.

Two years later, Odd Future was again blocked from entering the country to join Eminem at Rapture Festival because they were deemed “a potential threat to public order.” In 2015, the rapper was banned from the UK.

Bans from both countries have since been lifted and on Tuesday night Tyler returned to the UK to perform his first gig at the O2 Academy in Brixton since he was barred.

During the show, he referred to Theresa May, who was Home Secretary at that time, as “that b**** [who] banned me”, telling the audience: “I don’t take back nothing I said. I’ll never apologise.”
