UK faces '3cm snow' with five English towns and cities hammered across 'two days'

The UK could see 3cm of snow an hour in just days -with an Arctic blast to hit five cities. Fresh maps and charts, on WX Charts using Met Desk figures and predictions, show snowfall across Birmingham in the Midlands as well as London, Luton in Bedfordshire, Manchester in the North West and Southampton in the south coast.

Luton, in Bedfordshire, has a 48 per cent risk with 15 per cent on Friday and in Southampton, in Hampshire, the risk is at 11 per cent on Friday. The white stuff is due to return to the UK over two days next week, on April 24 and April 26.

The Met Office forecast reads: "This will generally be a settled period with high pressure close to the UK throughout. Most locations will remain dry, with variable cloud cover. Although some small areas or bands of thicker cloud, hill fog, and patchy light rain or drizzle will float about day to day."

Netweather TV said: "If you’re hoping for warmer weather to see out the rest of April, I’m afraid you will be disappointed to hear that northeasterly winds look to develop more widely through next week, as high pressure over the UK drifts back west and northwest over the North Atlantic, while pressure falls over the near continent.

"This will favour winds to strengthen from the north and northeast next week, bringing generally cool conditions with below average temperatures, though some uncertainty for now how close low pressure to the east will get – which will determine whether eastern areas will see showers or not."

It added: "We may see low pressure drop down from the north later in the week, bringing some showers to northern and eastern areas too. But it looks to stay mostly dry towards the west, closer to high pressure. A risk of frost overnight too, where skies clear. Perhaps prudent for gardeners to protect tender plants outdoors sensitive to cold for at least another week or so."
