UK faces 'hot' heatwave from Africa with first 30C day of year 'next week'

A heatwave has scored the UK bright red - as a plume of hot air from Africa has scorched the country. New maps and charts from WX Charts who the temperatures in the UK skyrocketing to 30C by June 27 as summer finally begins.

Sky News weather producer Kirsty McCabe says over the weekend and into next week, warmer and more settled weather has a high chance of developing. It will see "southerly winds, bringing hot, continental air and a rise in temperatures".

"There is also around a 20% chance we could see heatwave conditions developing by the middle of next week," McCabe added. A heatwave and warmer weather are not the only possibilities, McCabe warns, adding: "Keep an eye on the forecast!"

The weather projections from WX Charts use Met Desk data and are published daily. Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden has said "current signals are still good" for "a major build of high pressure during next week", too.

He said it could mean June - which has been disappointingly dull so far - could end on a high with "warm to hot temperatures over a number of days". Mr Madden said a "pattern change" is coming and says it could be "pretty amazing" across the entirety of July.

It could even mean a "super or mega heatwave". He wrote: "The good news going forward and into July is that things are looking pretty amazing for this month as a whole, with the now very high possibility of some kind of super or mega heatwave of a decent duration."

And he said we can expect a "maximum temperatures possibly peaking in and around the mid to high 30Cs" as summer finally begins following a drab and dreary beginning to the sixth month of the year, which has seen the mercury in the mid-teens.
