UK issued hot weather warning as North East could face temperatures of up to 23C

The UK has been issued with a hot weather warning as the North East could face temperatures of up to 23C. Weather forecasters and health officials have issued a yellow warning as temperatures in some places of the UK are expected to reach 30C for the first time in 2024.

The next few days will bring some of the hottest temperatures this year, according to weather agencies, which have warned the heat could have serious effects on some people. The UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) has said that the extreme June heat could pose a risk vulnerable people, with almost every corner of the country set for huge heat.

The warnings specify that action may be required 'within the health and social care sector specifically', and that people should take extra care to avoid the worst of the heat. Yellow warnings are the second-lowest on a scale devised by the UKHSA, above green 'summer preparedness' alerts, and one step below the second-highest 'enhanced response' amber alert.

Amber alerts represent 'a situation in which the expected impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service', and that weather could place the whole population at risk. Green alerts outline that authorities should have plans in place in the eventuality that the warnings are upgraded to yellow or amber.

The areas impacted include:

  • East Midlands

  • West Midlands

  • North West

  • South East

  • South West

  • East of England

  • London

  • Yorkshire and the Humber

The only English region left unaffected by the warnings is the North East. in the region on Monday the Met Office is predicting temperatures of 23C this this week predicted to be the hottest of the year across the UK

The Met Office has outlined the potential for 'some showers or longer periods of rain' from June 27, after the worst of the heat lifts in the coming days, with 'potentially some thunderstorms' on the horizon.
