UK set for first scorching 30C heatwave of year with 'three regions hottest'

The UK is set for its first 30C heatwave of summer - at last - with weather maps burning a fiery red. Ventusky weather maps and charts, published today, show 30C in the south of England, including Somerset, roasting in a 30C heat.

The projections show highs just under 30C in Salisbury and the Midlands too, as well as Wales. The best of the weather - which will hit the aforementioned areas as well as the northwest of England - will strike at around 4pm.

Looking ahead towards the end of June and the beginning of July, the BBC Weather team has delivered a forecast over what lies in store during the sixth month of the year and the seventh month of the year to boot.

It explains: "With high pressure likely to remain close to or north of the UK, there is a greater chance of calmer and drier conditions in the first week of July. Southern parts of the UK in particular could remain warmer, although uncertainties are increasing.

"Given the differences in the weather forecast models, there is the chance that conditions could instead be quite changeable, windier and cooler at times. There is also still a risk of high pressure shifting to the west or north-west of the UK and a generally cooler north-westerly flow breaking through for a while.

"The second week of July could remain warmer across much of the UK as a high-pressure zone extends from the UK into western and central continental Europe. It is therefore likely that the drier and calmer conditions will continue or return. For the far north, however, there is still a risk of wetter, windier and slightly cooler conditions.

To summarise, the trend towards calmer and even summery conditions after the start of astronomical summer appears to be continuing, at least for now."
