UK set for scorching 29C European heatwave next week and it'll last 'six days'

A scorching heatwave from Europe will hit the UK "for the first time this year" in a major boost for shivering Brits. Amid the low temperatures in June, which have struggled to get into the mid-teens, the country has been handed a handy update over the coming outlook.

The heatwave could last from Thursday June 27 right through the weekend to Tuesday July 2. WXCharts says the temperature could hit 29C, with the maps - projected using Met Desk - published on Tuesday (June 18) a week before the blast hits.

Weather expert Jim Dale told the Express that "we are definitely heading towards the best period of weather so far this year". He said: "High pressure (for so long absent), will place itself over the UK towards the end of the month (25th onwards) and then on into early July.

"It will be generally pretty good even before we get there, with many seeing temperatures into low to mid 20’s. We could well see higher temperatures still as the high pressure slips east. Nothing too silly or extreme for us within all of that, so enjoy whilst you can."

The BBC Weather team says it will be "warmer and drier" between June 24 and June 30 before "growing uncertainty" between Jule 1 and July 14. It explained: "In the last week of June, there is still a greater chance of high pressure persisting near or over parts of the UK. This increases the likelihood of warmer, calmer and drier conditions developing, with some areas perhaps becoming very warm for a time."

"With high pressure likely to remain close to the UK, conditions could stay mostly dry, warm and calm at the beginning of July, with the chances of drier and calmer conditions appearing to be greatest towards the north and west, although there is increasing uncertainty," it added.
