UK to sizzle hotter than Ibiza with 'half' of England set for mini-heatwave

A dramatic weather split will see parts of the UK as hot as Ibiza TODAY while others brace for a washout. The mercury will hit as warm as 19C in Leeds, but in the southeast temperatures will be significantly cooler, according to weather maps and charts for Tuesday April 30.

The brief Met Office outlook shows: "Largely dry and fine with spells of sunshine at times towards the east, though western counties may see some light rain and cloud by the afternoon. Breezy in the west, but easing through the afternoon. Feeling warmer than on Monday."

Senior meteorologist at the Met Office Amy Bokota said: "Temperatures have been below average for the last couple of weeks, so certainly by the time we get to Wednesday, and probably into next weekend, temperatures will be warmer.

"It might not be the sort of glorious sort of heatwave that we're hoping for ... but there probably will be some more pleasant and warmer weather for some people as we head towards the end of the week." But parts of the south of England could take the brunt of rainfall and gusty conditions.

Looking ahead to tonight in the Midlands, the Met Office predicts: "Clear spells in the evening but low cloud thickens from the east overnight. Winds turn light as temperature remain mild." On Wednesday, expect a "cloudy but dry start to the morning, but cloud will slowly lift."

It adds: "Clearer spells in the west but the afternoon where showers, sometimes heavy can develop." It continues, as it offers a brief update on what the UK can expect as April turns into May, with a look at Wednesday onwards: "Turning drier for many but remaining cloud with a risk of isolated thunderstorms.

"Temperatures on an upward trend with maximums being above average for the start of May."
