It comes after a British pensioner also drowned at the Turkish resort town of Marmaris last month, only 70 miles away. The 73-year-old had reportedly been on a coastal tour in Mugla Province when he jumped into the Mediterranean as temperatures reached a scorching 25C in the area.

But the British tourist struggled to get back into the boat, leading stricken friends to call emergency services. A team of coastguards, police and divers in two boats pulled him from the water and rushed him to paramedics waiting on the beach on April 16. However they were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
