UK tourists in Germany face £84 fine 'as soon as they drive into four cities'

UK tourists in Germany have been warned over driving a petrol and diesel car over the course of the Euro 2024 tournament. The tournament kicked off last night, on Friday night in Munich with Germany beating Scotland 5-1.

The tournament runs until July 14. Ali Ingram-Seal, from Saga, urged motorists to check whether they need to take action before visiting cities around Germany and whether they could be hit with fines if they do.

It comes amid a slow rise of low emission zones and clean air zones across the European Union nation. She said: “Most major German cities require a green emissions sticker that confirms your car’s compliant with their low-emission zones.

"This is usually determined by when your car was registered. Most cities only allow green emission vehicles, unless anyone in the vehicle has a blue EU parking card for people with disabilities." Drivers will face a €100 (£84.58) fine any time they enter a city without an environmental sticker.

It includes Gelsenkirchen as well as Frankfurt and Cologne. Munich is also affected. In addition to the requirement of an emissions sticker, some German cities have implemented diesel bans. These regulations also keep out relatively newer diesels that are eligible for a green emissions sticker.

It includes capital city Berlin as well as Darmstadt, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart. In the future more German cities may implement a diesel ban. If your vehicle is an older diesel, make sure to check this before your visit.

You can order the official German emissions sticker, now for only €15,95 including VAT and delivery costs. England kick off their campaign on Sunday with England taking on Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, which is the home of Schalke 04.

They then take on Denmark and Slovenia as they try and progress from their group stage.
