Temperatures will climb to around 21C in Greater Manchester this week amid a 'shift' in the weather across the UK.

It will start to warm up across the country after a dreary start to June. Met Office forecasters predict a 'shift' in the weather as temperatures will start to rise around average or above average for this time of year.

In places where sunshine is forecast, it will 'feel very warm' over the coming days. In our region, forecasters predict the mercury will begin to rise from tomorrow (Wednesday) after a largely overcast day today.

Temperatures of around 20C are expected tomorrow in Greater Manchester amid some sunny spells. Thursday and Friday are set to feel even warmer with the mercury reaching highs of 21C, with sunny and cloudy intervals forecast.

The weekend currently looks set to be largely dry with top temperatures of 19C on Saturday and Sunday. Met Office forecasters said the overall weather picture in the UK will turn more 'settled' from Wednesday.

This comes after a 'northerly airflow and cool air mass brought showers and below average temperatures for the time of year'. Now a strengthening of the jet stream will cause a shift in this week's weather.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris said: “In stark contrast to the first half of June, where temperatures have widely been below average, we are expecting to see a steady uptick through the second half of this week, rising to around or above average, and it will likely feel very warm for those in the sunshine.

“This initial spell of warm conditions isn’t expected to last too long however, as it turns more changeable through Friday and into the weekend with areas of cloud and rain spilling east across the UK.”
