UK tourists in Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Serbia warned 'stay indoors'

Greece has been hit by record-breaking temperatures in recent days with British holidaymakers, tourists and passengers warned over the mercury skyrocketing in holiday hotspots.

UK holidaymakers are being cautioned to steer clear of five European destinations as a scorching 44C heatwave sweeps the region. Greece is currently experiencing unprecedented high temperatures, prompting advisories for British tourists and travellers about the soaring heat in popular vacation spots.

While southern Europe endures the swelter, other areas are preparing for an influx of hot air this week, with Brits advised to be mindful when visiting certain destinations. Vienna, Austria, is anticipating highs of 33C on Wednesday and Friday, dipping to a cooler 19C at night.

Budapest, Hungary, will see the mercury soar to 34C midweek and again on Friday, with nighttime temperatures expected to fall to 22C. Prague, Czech Republic, is bracing for its warmest day this week on Friday, with the temperature expected to reach 31C, according to weather experts.

Belgrade, Serbia, is forecasted to experience a sizzling 38C on Saturday, so visitors should come prepared with ample sunscreen and water. Evening temperatures are also set to remain high, around 24C.

Sofia, Bulgaria, promises a week of clear, sunny skies, with the thermometer climbing to 34C on Saturday, say forecasters. The Prague press has reported a heatwave alert, stating: "Meteorologists have issued a heatwave warning for the coming days. Temperatures in Prague, central Bohemia and South Moravia are expected to exceed 31 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. On Wednesday, temperatures in Moravia could reach the 33 degree mark.", reports Birmingham Live.

"People have been advised to stay out of the sun, use sunscreen and increase their intake of liquids."

"The tropical thirty reached one place in the Czech Republic yesterday. Today, there will be many more places with thirty, especially in Central Bohemia, Prague, and South Moravia," stated CHMU - the Czech equivalent of the Met Office - on social platform X.
