UK weather: Strong winds warning as gusts of up to 45mph forecast
People planning to climb hills or hike up a mountain this weekend have been warned to take extra care as strong winds are predicted across much of the UK.
The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for South Wales and south-west England for Friday, with strong winds predicted.
This will then move to southern, central and eastern England on Saturday, with other areas of the country also expected to see higher-than-average winds.
Met Office chief meteorologist Paul Gundersen said strong winds of up to 45mph are expected across the South West.
But this could rise up to 55mph on the top of hills and at the coast in the region.
Gundersen said: "This is an unusual time of year for such strong winds and, with many people on holiday or planning outdoor activities, they are likely to cause some disruption.
"In addition, heavy rain could lead to standing water and spray on roads and consequently difficult driving conditions. Winds are expected to ease through the evening.

"Temperatures are expected to stay near average or rather cool over the coming days, especially in the rain and wind."
The Met Office said the wind could have some "minor impact" on travel but issued a warning for people planning on climbing a mountain in any of the impacted regions.
In a video posted on Twitter, the Met Office said: "Gales can give very arduous and serious walking conditions in the mountains.
"Sudden gusts can result in losing your footing, with potential for serious consequences on exposed terrain
"Winds are often much stronger over ridges, summits and through cols."
They also warned people planning on swimming or kayaking off the coast to be extra careful due to the threat of off shore winds.
An unexpected gust coming from the mainland can quickly pull anyone on a small boat further away from the coast.
The winds are expected to ease off on Sunday, with light showers predicted in many places across the country.
