Remember the pre-Deadpool days when Ryan Reynolds' most high-profile comic-book outing was the comically bad Green Lantern? It's certainly seemed at times like Ryan's wanted to forget.

But it's time for a fresh start for Green Lantern as there's a rebooted movie on the way, rumoured to be featuring two iconic bearers of the Green Lantern ring - Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Casting's reportedly underway for Hal, and according to The Wrap, DC Entertainment has narrowed its wish list down to six actors, one of whom is apparently Ryan Reynolds. Would he? Could he?

In fact it wouldn't be out of character for the actor to revisit a role that didn't go so well the first time around, as his hugely successful starring turn in Deadpool last year followed an appearance as the same character in 2009's widely derided X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Also up for the role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern Corps, according to The Wrap's sources, are Tom Cruise, Joel McHale, Bradley Cooper, Armie Hammer and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer and Grassroots' Justin Rhodes are the creative forces that have been assigned to Green Lantern Corps. It will apparently centre on the introduction of African-American war hero John Stewart to the intergalactic space police force known as the Green Lanterns, and focus on his partnership with veteran Lantern Hal Jordan.

The movie is currently scheduled to hit cinemas in 2020, but that won't necessarily be the first time we see the ring-bearers.

Although Warner Bros production president Greg Silverman hinted that the Green Lanterns would likely be introduced in 2019's Justice League 2, there have been rumours that the Corp will make at least a small appearance in Zack Snyder's first Justice League movie (out later this year).
