Unique $20 Million McLaren F1 heading to auction

A unique McLaren F1 estimated to be worth around $20 million is heading to auction.

The 1995 model is impeccably preserved, having covered just 410 kilometres (254 miles), and sold for more than that sum ($20,465,000) back in 2021. It has only had 12 miles on the clock since that sale.

Originally showcased in 2021, this particular vehicle fetched the astounding $20,465,000 at Gooding & Co's auction, but is now being sold via RM Sotheby's in a sealed auction, where it is expected to fetch a similar sum - or more.

The McLaren F1 is a revered icon in automotive circles, boasting a 6.1-liter BMW V12 engine, 627bhp output, six-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, and a blistering top speed of 240.1mph. Designed by Gordon Murray, it holds a distinguished place in the annals of motorsport history, having clinched victories at Le Mans in its racing guise, and remains a quintessential symbol of 1990s automotive excellence.

This one is especially rare as it is distinguished by its unique 'Creighton Brown' exterior hue, this F1 stands out as the sole brown variant among the 106 McLaren F1s ever produced. Its interior features a complementary light tan/brown finish and includes bespoke amenities such as custom-fitted luggage, a tool chest and roll, and a one-of-a-kind TAG watch engraved with the car's chassis number (029).

RM Sotheby's anticipates a bidding frenzy when the sealed bid auction commences on 13 May, with projections suggesting a sale price in excess of $20 million.
