Students at the University of Zimbabwe refused to sit their exams in protest after Robert Mugabe ignored demands to step down as president.

The students also demanded that Mugabe's wife Grace be stripped of her PhD from the university on Monday.

The university, in Harare, awarded Grace Mugabe an honorary PhD from the Department of Sociology in 2014.

Exams were postponed until further notice due to the protest.

Pictures shared on Twitter showed students in Zimbabwe's capital demonstrating in front of the Great Hall at the university.

Students chanted and sang songs against 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe, who is under mounting pressure to resign, according to a Reuters witness.
