Urgent 4-day yellow heatwave alert for London issued

A heat-health alert has been issued for London. The heatwave alert is in place from Monday, June 24, to Thursday, June 27.

The yellow warning comes from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The alert is aimed at the health and social care sector, warning them that there may be more vulnerable people needing help due to the hot weather.

UKHSA writes : "Minor impacts are probable across the health and social care sector, including: Increased use of healthcare services by the vulnerable population; increase in risk of mortality amongst vulnerable individuals and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm."

The warning covers London and the rest of England, except the North East

A cargo ship that became wedged in the River Nene near Wisbech, UK, was freed on Tuesday evening, June 25, local media reported.The Baltic Arrow became wedged due to low water levels on Tuesday morning, local media reported.Attempts were made to free the ship throughout the day, as seen in footage recorded by Graham Cooke.However, authorities had to wait until evening to use make use of the high water to free the 80-meter vessel.A Wisbech Port spokesperson told the Wisbech Standard: “Yesterday evening the Harbour Authority manoeuvred the Baltic Arrow with the assistance of the Fenlander [tugboat] and a tug that was drafted in from Kings Lynn.
