A US couple have been thrown off a plane after fellow passengers complained about their body odour.

Yossi Adler, his wife Jennie and their young daughter, with are Orthodox jews, were removed from an American Airlines flight when they were trying to fly from Miami home to Detroit after a holiday.

Yossi told the Local 10 channel they were removed just before the plane took off.

“All of a sudden, as soon as they took us off, they closed the gate and said ‘Sorry sir, some people complained you had body odour and we’re not letting you back on,'” he said.

“There’s no body odour that we have. There’s nothing wrong with us.”

The airline confirmed the Adlers were removed after complaints and said their own crew had noticed a smell as well.

“The Adler family were asked to deplane last night after several passengers, along with our crew members, complained about their body odour,” it said in a statement.

“The family were provided hotel accommodations and meals, and re-booked on a flight to Detroit today.”

The Adlers, an orthodox Jewish couple, insist they do not smell and claim they could have been removed due to their religion.

Yossi used his mobile phone to record the incident as they were removed from the plane and argued with ground crew.

“There’s a religious reason for some reason that they’re kicking me off the plane. We don’t have odour, OK? Nobody here has odour,” he is heard saying in the video.

The an American Airlines staff member says: “Now you told me for religious reasons you don’t shower, is that what you said?”

Adler responds: “No I didn’t! I shower every day. I said you kicked me off because of religious reasons.”

He also told NBC News that American did not specify which one of the family had body odour issues.

“Was it me, my wife, my baby?” he asked.

Last year, American Airlines hit the headlines after a passenger was removed from a flight, also at Miami, because of the size of her cello, even though she had bought a seat for the instrument.
