US and UK Forces Conduct New Joint Strikes in Yemen

US and UK military forces conducted joint strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen on January 22, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed.

CENTCOM said the joint strikes on eight Houthi targets were conducted with support from other allies “to degrade Houthi capability to continue their reckless and unlawful attacks on U.S. and U.K. ships as well as international commercial shipping in the Red Sea, Bab Al-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.”

The strikes targeted areas controlled by Houthis, or Ansar Allah, and used to attack international merchant vessels and US Navy ships, CENTCOM added.

Video posted to X by the US Central Command shows US deployed fighter aircrafts taking off from the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

A few hours prior, the Houthis stated that naval forces targeted an American military cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden.

“Yemeni Armed Forces continue to retaliate to any American or British aggression against our country by targeting all sources of threat in the Red and Arab Seas," the group said.

The US government and Department of Defense have yet to release statements acknowledging the strikes.

Earlier on Monday, Joe Biden announced he had met UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to discuss the Red Sea conflicts. The two leaders “reiterated their commitment to freedom of navigation, international commerce, and defending mariners from illegal and unjustifiable attacks.” Credit: US Central Command via Storyful
