A van has been seized after it was found to be involved in 'illegal waste activity'.

Dorset Police seized the vehicle near Sutton Waldron on Thursday, May 9, after officers from the rural crime team found it be full of scrap metal.

It was reported that the driver was conducting 'improper door to door enquiries' without a waste carriers licence.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "This evening our team has been out and about on patrol covering most of the eastern patch of rural Dorset.

"This van was stopped north of the county and was found to be full of scrap metal.

"The driver had travelled more than three hours to conduct their improper door to door enquiries in Dorset without a waste carriers licence.

"One van seized under Section 34b EPA. One long walk home for the driver.

"Individuals involved in illegal waste activity such as this are often also involved in other criminality such as theft and fly tipping.

"Rural Dorset is no place for waste crime, and our team will work closely with Dorset Council to ensure this."
