Video Captures Moment of IED Explosion Near Journalists in Eastern Mosul

An IED explosion closely missed a number of western journalists embedded with soldiers as Iraqi forces pushed into southeastern Mosul’s al-Tiran and al-Mamoun neighborhoods on February 25.

A press flak jacket can be seen in the footage, with English speakers being heard in the background. Photos bearing a notable similarity to the video footage were published on the same day by AP photographer Aris Messinis, who is among the western journalists embedded with Iraqi forces in the eastern Mosul campaign. Based on the footage it appears that no one was killed or injured.

In a separate incident on February 25, Kurdish journalist and Rudaw anchor Shifa Gardi was killed and her cameraman Younis Mustafa was wounded in a roadside bombing elsewhere in eastern Mosul. Credit: YouTube/al-Mawsleya via Storyful
