Germanwings CEO Thanks Rescue Crews and Expresses Sympathy With Families of Victims

Germanwings CEO Thomas Winkelmann has expressed his sympathy with the families of the victims of Germanwings flight 9525, which crashed near Seynes-les-Alpes, France, on March 24. The flight was carrying 144 passengers and six crew, all of whom were killed. In his March 31 statement, Winkelmann called the crash one of the “biggest national tragedies our country has faced,” saying Germanwings “deeply mourned this loss.”

He thanked rescue crews and other supporters, and said the airline would “continue to do everything in our power to help the families involved.”

Winkelmann’s message came on the same day that Germanwings’ mother company, Lufthansa, announced that its 60th anniversary celebrations in mid-April would be cancelled, to be replaced by a memorial service in Cologne Cathedral for friends and families of those killed in the crash.
