Hundreds of Refugees Wait for Hours at Croatia-Serbia Border

Refugees and migrants reportedly broke through a police line at Tovarnik, Croatia, on September 17, as the country struggled to deal with a sudden influx of people. With the border between Serbia and Hungary closed, thousands of refugees and migrants made their way to Croatia. Police tried to corral people waiting for transport onwards from Tovarnik, but the crowd became agitated and angry.

Thousands of asylum seekers have streamed from Serbia into Croatia since Hungary sealed its borders on September 15. Croatian police said more than 6,000 people had arrived in less than two days, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.
