Ice Storm Creates Galloping Power Lines in Texas

Thousands of homes in the Texas panhandle were without power after a weekend ice storm, according to Southwestern Electric Power Company. The utility posted a video on Monday, November 30, showing a phenomenon called galloping lines that can happen when ice builds up on the power lines.

At least 14 people died because of the Midwest storm, which included Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Tens of thousands of people were still without power on Monday, three days after the storm. Credit: YouTube/SWEPCO
