Man Who Died in Mississippi Police Custody Was Hogtied, Video Shows

Witness video shows police in Southaven, Mississippi, hogtie a man before loading him into an ambulance on July 18. Troy Goode, 30, died two hours later and after telling police he couldn’t breathe, according to local media.

Goode and his wife, Kelli, were attending a concert when they left. Goode was intoxicated, and his wife was driving the car when he suddenly got out of it and was acting erratically, she told local media. A witness called police.

The video, posted by attorney David McLaughlin’s son Brady on YouTube, shows Goode on the stretcher, hogtied. The witnesses in the video say Goode is “feeling claustrophobic,” that he looks really white and that you’re not supposed to hogtie people. They also express concern that Brady could be arrested for shooting the video, and the video ends when officers tell him to stop shooting the video.

McLaughlin told local media they were eating dinner at a nearby restaurant when the incident occurred, and Brady started filming as they saw the events unfold.

The attorney for the family told local media that Goode suffered from asthma and repeatedly told officers that he could not breathe.

Police told local media they were responding to an alleged LSD overdose and that the experience of the medical personnel and officers on scene fit the description. Credit: YouTube/Brady McLaughlin
