Mandela still critical but stable

South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma says Nelson Mandela remains in critical but stable condition, however, he hopes he’ll be able to leave hospital “very soon.” The 94-year-old has now spent three weeks inside Pretoria’s Mediclinic Heart Hospital for a recurring lung infection. Outside the clinic, a woman praying for his recovery said: “For a man like him to be in condition like this touches a lot of South African lives, so we wish all the best for him and wish that he recovers in time.” But others feel that too much attention is being paid to the ailing anti-apartheid hero and that in itself is only adding pressure. “He is old enough to go, so I don’t know why they are still keeping him, so, if God says yes – let him go. For somebody to be on the machines in hospital for a very long time I thinks its very painful for him,” added one woman passing the clinic. Meanwhile there are reports that a bitter family feud has erupted over Mandela’s final resting place amid claims a grandson, who is a chief, has plans for a shrine and hotel complex.
