Police, Demonstrators Clash Near Durban Peace March

Scuffles broke out near an anti-xenophobia march in the South African port city of Durban’s central business district on April 16, according to reports. Marchers gathered at Curries Fountain stadium in Durban amid a spate of violence in the city and elsewhere in South Africa.

Five people are dead in Durban following a week of fighting between South Africans and foreign nationals. Earlier on Thursday, police used rubber bullets to disperse crowds throwing bottles and rocks at journalists in the Actonville area of Benoni. Truck drivers and non-nationals were threatened in the area, reports said.
