Pope Francis Greets Throngs in Washington

Pope Francis greeted thousands of people who lined the streets in Washington, D.C., on September 23. Francis paraded in the popemobile following his arrival ceremony at the White House and meeting with President Barack Obama. Following the visit to the White House and the parade, Pope Francis met with bishops for a prayer service at Saint Matthew’s Cathedral. A canonization service is scheduled for the late afternoon.
