Shark Attack Victim 'Didn't See It Coming'

A 16-year-old shark attack victim described the moment he was injured off the shores of Oak Island, North Carolina. Hunter Treschl said he “didn’t see it coming” when he was standing in waist-deep water.

“I felt it on my leg and then I saw it had attacked my arm ’cause it was out of the water a little bit,” said Treschl in an interview taped in his hospital room on June 17.

He was the second of two teenagers who lost an arm to a shark attack on Sunday, June 14. The incidents were separate and happened within just over an hour of each other.

Treschl said he hopes to return to a normal life. “I have two options … I can try to live my life the way I was and make an effort to do that even though I don’t have an arm, or I can kind of just let this be completely debilitating and bring my life down.”

“Out of those two, there’s really only one that I would actually choose. And that’s to try and fight to live a normal life with the cards I’ve been dealt.” Credit: YouTube/New Hanover Regional Medical Center NC
