Student Protesters Prepare to March on Police Lines

Students faced off with police in the township of Letpatan, around 85 miles north of Yangon, on Tuesday, March 10. Student tried to break through police lines to continue a protest march on Yangon over a controversial new education bill.

The students launched the march against the National Education Law, which students claim will limit access to higher education and impinge on the academic freedom of universities, in January. The protest march was halted on March 3 when police surrounded a Buddhist monastery where the students had camped. Credit: Instagram/pjmooney
