Thousands Stage Anti-Austerity Protest in Athens

Thousands of people flocked to a demonstration outside the Greek parliament in Athens on Sunday, June 21, ahead of crunch talks between the Syriza government and international creditors. Protesters called for Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to resist calls for further austerity measures at a summit with the European Commission, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund on June 22.

Greece faces default, which could trigger an exit from the eurozone, unless it can secure access to funds ahead of June 30 when €1.6 billion ($1.8 billion) needs to be repaid to the IMF. Credit: Facebook/Nancy Panousopoulou-Fountoulakis
