A wildfire burning in the hills near Nelson, British Columbia spread over nearly 400 acres on July 5. An evacuation alert had been issued for residents on the west side of Kootenay Lake, according to local media. There were at least 25 firefighters working on the ground with support from helicopters and air tankers.
