Viral video shows shocking damage to Saltburn car park after flooding across Teesside

A viral video shows shocking damage to a seafront car park after heavy rain poured across Teesside.

Karl Steanson captured the aftermath of the heavy rain at Cat Nab Car Park, in Saltburn, which appears to have been severally damaged in the bad weather. The car park was flooded on Wednesday after Millholme Beck burst its banks.

It follows a yellow warning issued by the Met Office which told to expect downpours between 00.15am Wednesday and 6am on Thursday. At the time, forecasters warned of flooding and disruption to travel.

The footage - which has been uploaded as a Facebook reel - shows ripples in the tarmac which appears to have distorted the parking spaces. The video has gained around 42,000 views from social media users.

At the time, forecasters told Teessiders to expect "heavy and persistent" downpours, a spokesperson for the Met Office said; "An area of rain is expected to develop across eastern and central England and then move north-westwards to affect northern England and north Wales during Wednesday afternoon. The area of rain could then become slow moving, heavy and persistent, especially over north facing hills, before clearing during Thursday morning.

"There is a lot of uncertainty over exactly where the heaviest rain will occur. Many places will see 30-40mm of rain, while a few areas may receive 60-80mm. There is also a small chance that a few upland areas could see much higher totals, in the order of 100-150mm."
