Visso Homes in Ruins After Powerful Earthquake

The Italian city of Visso suffered widespread damage after two earthquakes and a series of aftershocks hit the central Italy region on Wednesday, October 26. Visso Mayor Giuliano Pazzaglini said at least two-thirds of the buildings, which were weakened by the deadly August earthquake near Amatrice, were unsafe, according to the BBC. The city was also running short of drinking water and sanitation.

Thousands of people in central Italy have moved to temporary shelters because of the damage to homes and fears of further aftershocks, according to local reports. Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has asked the parliament to approve funding for quake relief efforts.
