Visually impaired morris dancers wow care home residents

MORRIS dancers and their musicians have entertained care home residents.

SO Xsighted, a group of visually impaired and blind Border Morris Dancers, visited Elgar Court Care Home this week.

The group performed a number of highly choreographed routines along with live music played by other members.

Residents at Elgar Court Care Home were delighted by the vivacious performance and wonderfully entertaining Morris Dancers and thoroughly enjoyed having tea and cake with them afterwards.

General Manager Sarah Cadwallader said: “We continually strive to ensure our home and residents are involved with our local communities, and keep everyone connected.

"Our home felt so lucky that SO XSighted were able to come to Elgar Court – they are certainly very popular!

"Residents and staff were full of admiration and awe at the stunning display they gave – and our residents are certainly looking forward to seeing them again at our home.”

The group, based in Malvern, aim to promote awareness about vision loss and break misconceptions about disability.

Through raising awareness, they also aim to have fun and keep the old English tradition alive through dance and music.

Morris dancing is a form of English Folk dance, first appearing in England in the 15th century.

The traditional dance is regarded as the celebration of seasonal festivals and holidays, historically rooted and a vibrant part of British cultural heritage.
