'The Walking Dead' villain geeked out the first time he stepped on set

Warning: There are spoilers ahead if you're not caught up with "The Walking Dead."

Fan-favorite Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) entered the season six finale of "The Walking Dead" swinging, and the actor's entrance onto the show was equally as impressive.

During a press conference for the show last Friday afternoon at Comic-Con, the cast and crew reminisced about Morgan's first time on set to shoot the iconic scene from the comics. It sounded like a blast.

"The two nights that we shot that last sequence, Jeffrey was still finishing 'The Good Wife,' flew in, [had] like one day of costume fittings, we shot that entire 12-page dialogue, and you would think about just how you have to prepare for that and he nailed it," executive producer and finale director Greg Nicotero told press. "It was really amazing to watch. On the DVD, on the Blu-ray, we have the alternate dialogue from the comic book, which he says f--- every other three words, but it was amazing."

Nicotero recalled the main cast, many of whom were sitting on their knees in that final scene, were blown away.

"When I would say cut, they'd get up and be like 'That was f---ing great,'" he recalled. "The cast really surrounded him and brought him in. We're so lucky."

"Not only were they on their knees, they were acting their asses off," Morgan interjected. "To do that and be that vulnerable for a guy that's just walking in to kind of turn the show upside down is a testament to everyone sitting up here."

From there, Morgan talked about what it was like when he stepped out of the camper for the first time on set.

"I was a little bit nervous kind of going in," he admitted. "But I remember right before I walked out of the trailer for the first time this kind of weird kind of calm came over me."

"This role for me is something really special," Morgan added.

"Jeffrey was kind of geeking out a little bit the first moment [he was on set]," Nicotero said later during the press conference.

Earlier in the day during the Comic-Con panel, Andrew Lincoln, who plays protagonist Rick Grimes, and is currently at Negan's mercy, told the Comic-Con crowd that shooting the final scene of season six "sucked."

"It was a pretty intense return after having a hiatus and sort of chilling in my orchard to come back and see his face [Jeffrey Dean Morgan]," Lincoln joked. "Can I just point out that he's having way too much fun playing this dude? I've spoke about this before and I'll say it again. It's a really sh---y start to the season, but hang in there guys. I know you will because we're heading towards, I think, one of the greatest showdowns that we've had in this show since Terminus. So hang in there, I know you will."

Teminus, as you may remember, was the location in seasons four and five run by a group of cannibals. In the season four finale, Rick and some of his crew were trapped inside a train car and things weren't looking so hot for them.

But Rick pronounced at the end of season four that the cannibals were screwing with the wrong people — his people — and, at the time, he was right. In the season five premiere, Carol came to the rescue and saved everyone from the cannibals.

This time around, the tables have turned as Rick and his crew have found out that they are perhaps screwing with the wrong people.

During last Friday's press conference, Morgan was asked how he was adjusting to Comic-Con and he said he was loving it, hinting about a possible dark road ahead for some of the characters in the following year.

"Right now, this Comic-Con is going to be okay," Morgan told journalists at Comic-Con. "I think next year, it will be a little different. That's what I think. I think next year is going to be a slew of middle fingers and language when I come out on stage."

Bring it on. "The Walking Dead" will return to AMC October 23 at 9 p.m.
