Wallace High's history-making girls' football team honoured at civic reception

Wallace High School’s senior girls’ football team were honoured at a special civic reception within Stirling Council chambers recently following their Hampden heroics.

The team, joined by head teacher Scott Pennock and Head of PE Colin Burke, received awards at the reception hosted by Stirling Provost Elaine Watterson who praised the girls on their sporting achievements. The Stirling school’s under-18s capped off an invincible season by becoming the first team in the school’s 53 year history, boys or girls, to lift the Scottish Cup following a 1-0 victory over St Ninian’s High from Giffnock.

The final, played on May 9, was the first time that the senior girls’ showpiece fixture had taken place at Scotland’s national stadium, Hampden Park.

Scott Pennock said: “It has been fitting that the civic reception celebrating the considerable achievements of our girls’ football team this session has come on the week of the publication of Wallace High’s HMIe Report. The recognition of ‘major strengths’ in leadership of change and, crucially, wellbeing, equality and inclusion underpins the character formation, teamwork and focus on attitude, effort and a collective ethos that has been so central to our girls’ success. We look forward to building on these strengths to ensure continuous improvement in the sessions ahead.”
