Walsall Local Election 2024 - when you need to vote and where

People across Walsall will have the chance to vast their votes on Thursday (May 2) and decide who takes the 20 seats available on the council. The Conservatives hold a huge majority with 37 out of the local authority's 60 seats being blue while Labour currently has 12.

A newly formed Independent Group holds nine seats while another independent and one of no political party making up the rest of the council. One seat in each of the Walsall borough's 20 wards is being contested - 12 of which are currently held by the Tories.

Just over 201,000 people out of Walsall's 284,100 population will be eligible to vote with residents reminded they must bring photo ID to ensure they can take part in the ballot. Voting hours will be from 7am to 10pm but the ballot papers will be counted in Walsall the following day (Friday, May 3) with the first ward result anticipated for 12.30pm and the last declaration estimated for an hour later.

Elections are also being held for the West Midlands Mayor and the Police and Crime Commissioner and these results will be declared on Saturday. There are more than 100 polling stations across the borough including schools, libraries, community centres and other venues. They are:
