A fan theory has convinced people that one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest villains could return for WandaVision.

It had already been reported that WandaVision, the Disney+ series which focuses on the superheroes Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), will tie into the upcoming film Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

A leak suggested that the series’ main villain will be Nightmare, the sinister ruler of the Dream Dimension.

However, Reddit user u/Lumba has done a dive into the history of the characters in WandaVision, looking specifically at Avengers: Age of Ultron, and crafted a theory that suggests there could be a more familiar foe added the mix.

According to u/Lumba, the legendary Mind Stone created a connection between Wanda, Vision and the villainous AI known as Ultron.

Wanda’s supernatural powers originally came from the stone, which gets embedded in Vision’s head in the 2015 film. Ultron (James Spader), is also seen trying to harness the stone’s powers.

And, what’s more, says the theory, there’s evidence to suggest Ultron is in love with Wanda. The poster cites a number of instances from the film in which the villain seems to display an unexpected fondness towards his telekinetic protege.

This super-powered love triangle might have provided Marvel the perfect excuse to re-introduce Ultron into the MCU, according to inverse.com.

Even though Ultron was destroyed at the end of Age of Ultron, the MCU has brought back supposedly dead characters before, including Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury.

WandaVision will be released on Disney+ in December.
